Today sure was a rainy day, and it rained all morning till mid-afternoon. Maybe it's mother nature's way of weeping for the war dead. This weekend marks the 6oth anniversary of the end of WW2 in Europe. So many years on, I wonder if lessons have really been learnt from this true horror of the modern times. Although I have great interest in WW2, I for one condemn war for the horrors of war make events like the recent tsunami disaster pale in comparision. Just refer to the links below:
http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/timeline/statistics.htmhttp://www.angelfire.com/ct/ww2europe/stats.htmlsome points to note:
-80% of Soviet males born in 1923 didn't survive WWII
-After the war, many Soviet towns and villages had no male population between 15 and 65
-Germany lost a tenth of its population
-Poland lost about a quarter of it's population, the worst of any country
-Holocaust victims only make up a tenth of the war casualties
Really, I don't think we need another war. There is nothing glorious about dying in war. You only become another statistic.
